Bright lime-green fruit have a tropical taste. This variety has round, flattened, 10-oz beefsteak-type fruit which reveal lovely, neon-colored flesh when sliced. A very rare heirloom from Moldova that has been a favorite of mine for years and one of the first green varieties I grew.

What are the pros? amazing flavor

What are the cons? huge plants

Review:

I will be growing these again, but there are some problems. The plants get huge (broke our wooden supports), the fruit ripens late in the season, and it's difficult to tell when the fruit is ripe. That said, these are worth waiting for. We ended up with a huge crop after most of our red tomatoes were done. Excellent fresh but they also make a wonderful soup (prettiest if mixed with firm yellow tomatoes)

What are the pros? taste

What are the cons? small size

Review:

Our tomatoes wound up on the small size for what I'd expected of this variety, but we had a weird year weather-wise, so that may be why. The taste is just amazing. Great for eating by itself or chopping into a fresh fruit salsa. Our 1 year old is positively addicted to them. We will continue to grow them.

What are the pros? hardy and fast growing

What are the cons? none

Review:

Coastal Western Washington has a difficult climate for growing tomatoes - I usually have difficulty getting them to set fruit before October. Most don't take off until after the heat of late summer - August, September. Not so with this variety. It thrives through the coldest and rainiest weather, and the hot and dry spells. I've tried a couple dozen different tomato varieties in the last two years. Green Moldovan has outperformed all of them. This year I started my tomato plants indoors in February, and put them out at the beginning of April. With no special care, the Green Moldovans are twice as tall and twice and bushy as all the other tomato starts. They weathered many spring storms with no trouble, and do well in patio containers. The green tomatoes are a hit, too, with my friends and neighbors asking for more every year.

What are the pros?

What are the cons?

Review:

Friend gave me a seedling to try. Had no room left in the garden bed so potted it. Did remarkably well on the patio and gave us a bunch of little great tasting tomatoes. Will plant again and give it plenty more room next year because we got hooked on the unusual flavor and bright green colors. If it wasn't confined to a pot it probably would have given bigger fruit. Because the fruit was smallish we had no cracking issues.
