83 days. Fearing Burr said in 1863, "The Nutmeg Melon has long been in cultivation, and is almost everywhere to be found in the vegetable garden... It is of most delicious excellence... one of the best." It is a medium-size green-fleshed melon that has a heavily netted skin and rich, sweet, delicious flesh with heavy aroma.

What are the pros? delicious flavor

What are the cons? waiting

Review:

I am growing four different melons this year. Yesterday I picked my first of the second type to ripen (Minnesota Midget was ready three weeks ago). It was ribbed and heavily netted, but until I cut open the fruit to reveal the green flesh I had no idea what kind it was. I have been waiting on the Green Nutmeg to ripen and slip from the vine for what seems like forever. The MM changed color practically overnight, but the flavor, sweetness and juiciness are all mediocre. Good things come to those who wait. GN has nice flavor, is sweet and is juicy. I will definitely plant it again.

What are the pros? Sweet honey flavor. Juicy.

What are the cons? none

Review:

These were very easy to grow in my raised bed. They seemed to mature faster than the musk melons, still waiting on them. I have zero problems with bugs and am growing all organic. They remind us of a blend between a cantaloupe and a honeydew with a wonderful flavor. When sliced open the seeds are orange like cantaloupe, smell like cantaloupe but the flesh reminds us of both. Wonderful!

Review:

We grew 15 melon types in 5 gallon containers last summer. This one got a thumbs up from all our taste-testers with its subtle, spicy aftertaste. It took 27 days from the time it sprouted for it to flower and 82 days from sprouting to our first ripe melon. For those who might want to start early indoors, at 24 days from sprouting, the vine measured 17 inches long. This melon slips when it is ripe. The vine developed two melons at a time. Our melons weighed 1 pound, 7 ounces and 1 pound, 5 ounces. The melon vine looked as if it might produce another batch of fruit (we had pregnant females), but it did not get the chance to finish since we started so late in the season. As a side note, this was one of two melons we grew that aborted the fruit it initially set. So, if your female flowers start growing melons and then abort them, don't fret. The plant will put out new females and produce good fruit if you give it time.

Review:

Like all my melons, because I live in the short seasoned cool summer Pacific Northwest, I grew these in a greenhouse. They did very well last year, but for a while I was honestly worried that their small size fruit was some sort of indicator of unhappy plants. Well I learned otherwise, and despite the small size of melons, they're definitely worth it! Gorgeous green flesh and a flavor practically unmatched! They have an amazing "spicy" flavor that won over my entire family, and gets even the pickiest eaters to devour them right down to the rind. This one's gonna be planted every year for sure.
