What are the pros? Heat tolerant
What are the cons? None
I was impressed with Illini Star's ability to set fruit in high temps. We had fruit from this plant throughout the summer, whereas our Emerald didn't set fruit until after temps had cooled, when it was too late. No blossom end rot, no cracking. We did lose a few to a tomato worm, but no pests besides that. We liked the flavor well enough. Will grow again.

What are the pros? crack resistant, delicious
What are the cons? none
These tomatoes are truly perfect, especially for canning. When tomatoes crack, canning them is out. Almost none to none cracked, in spite of hot dry weather followed by cool wet weather! They are smallish to medium, a bit smaller than my fist. No pests or diseases! They are delicious and a deep red inside when fully ripe! I will grow these again next year!

What are the pros? reliable
I always plant ~ 15 different types of toms in my garden. I live in zone 5, and usually have a relatively cool summer and a short growing season. This summer, it was 100 degrees at the beginning of June for two weeks, then stayed above 90 till the end of August. Most of my toms did terrible (no wonder), but the Illini star toms grew nicely and produced many small to medium size tomatoes. They have nice flavor, are firm, and look beautiful (no blossom end rot, no cracking). I plant mostly heirloom toms from Baker Creek and the illini star outdid them all! I will definitely plant again and again

What are the pros? Firm, productive, consistent
This little tomato is a favorite of mine! It isn't big but is firm and holds up very well in the canning process. Not mushy at all, keeps its shape. Very productive and reliable even in adverse conditions of all kinds. North Dakota is notorious for fickle weather, and this little baby has held up to whatever nature dished out. Will plant over and over.
