Imperial Self-Folding Lettuce

1 Review | Write a Review
(Lactuca sativa) This rare 19th-century German heirloom came from the seed archive of Arche Noah in Austria. A bright green romaine-type, its original name is Kaiser Selbstschuss and should be treated as a summer lettuce. It does exceptionally well when planted in partial shade during hot weather. Space 6 to 8 inches apart for best-shaped heads.

What are the pros? not bitter in heat

What are the cons? Not a winter lettuce taste

I am excited to have this in my garden. The seeds germinated quickly. I have it in a straw bale bed that gets shady about 2 pm. This lettuce is great if you don't want to buy that creepy bag lettuce in the summer, especially here in hot Tennessee. However, it is a summer lettuce. None of the tender taste of fall and winter lettuce. As long as you aren't expecting that, you will love it. And no bitterness or bolting, so far and we have hit mid's 90's already this year
