This is one of the melons that just about drove Joe crazy trying to secure. For more than 8 years he tried to get seeds of this extremely interesting variety. The red/copper stripes interspersed with light green and then a dark green rib make this an extremely unusual beautiful melon. We are told that it is extra-early, bearing in as little as 70 days. We have been told that the flesh is pale green/peach color and very sweet. Joe believes that this melon originated in the Punjab. The paintings for this melon were done by Amy Glasser a young Botanical Artist who has a great eye for detail. Thanks Amy!

Review:

This was our first season growing this variety. They were fast growing and early maturing. They also seem to be fairly resistant to powdery mildew. All of our other varieties were hit hard, but there was very little evidence of powdering mildew on the kajari even though it was in direct contact with the infected varieties. The flavor is quite unique and hard to describe. It is very sweet and rich with almost a buttery aftertaste. The color of the melons changes from black to rust to bright orange as it matures with a bright green flesh. This was very popular with our customers. Our only issue was that they had a tendency to split.

Review:

These are the cutest little melons. Perfect for individual or two. They have the most heavenly aroma when ripe with a very pale soft flesh. I planted them directly in the garden a little late in the season but have still harvested 3 fruit from one vine. No bugs or powdery mildew even though the cucumber and squash next to it had both.

Not sure if it is our climate here in PA, but these didn't do much for us. We planted the first crop in May, and the plants came up, but were never very healthy. They produced one melon and then died. Thinking maybe we had planted too early, we started another set (in a different location) in July, plants came up spread out a few feet then withered and died. It also seems like this variety is very susceptible to powdery mildew.

Review:

We started these seeds indoors and transplanted out in early June. More than half were dead within the first two weeks, although nothing else seemed to be struggling. The few that survived grew well, and produced 2-3 melons each, but we were not impressed with the flavor. They are quite pretty when they ripen, but we won't grow them again. We strongly prefer the Ha'ogen melon's flavor, and they grew like crazy right next to where the Kujari had been withering and dying.
