We finally have added a unique white marigold; this variety has lovely 2-inch creamy-white blooms that really stand out in a crowd. White marigolds were long in the making; in fact, Burpee Seed Company spent 56 years of searching and breeding before finding success. After years of trying, David Burpee offered $10,000 to the first home gardener who sent in the right seeds to help make a real white variety; thousands of gardeners responded for years. One lady, Alice Vonk of Sully, Iowa, sent seeds for 21 years, and in 1975, Burpee awarded her the coveted prize for her work—after the company had spent 56 years and $250,000 testing during the contest years. Now there are several white varieties, including this beauty.

What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? So big

Review:

These marigolds grew quite quickly and abundantly, but be weary how large these grow... mine are currently 3 feet and still growing, so space them out more than I did! I'm still waiting on blooms but they're nearly ready to blossom. These would be great along a fence or in the center of a bed with smaller flowers around it due to their height.

What are the pros? Great cut flower

What are the cons? None

Review:

I started this variety in a flat a little later in the season, and transplanted out into a bed that has fairly dry soil, but this marigold has bloomed wonderfully! The 2' plants have flowers that grow on long stems, so they make an excellent cut flower that lasts. The plants flowered fairy quickly, so this would be a great plant to sow several times in the growing season for non-stop blooms. In a late-summer bed where most things have started to fade, it's nice to have something still fresh and blooming!
