(Polygonum orientale) Exotic, long, flowing flower heads are a cerise-pink in color. Plants are over 6 feet tall and produce many hanging, rope-like flower heads. We are delighted to offer this rare and colorful heirloom from the gardens of yesteryear. Freeze seeds for a week before planting and plant very early in the spring or late winter. A nice cut or dry flower.

What are the pros? Tall, great cut flower

What are the cons? A little hard to start

Review:

This is a favorite of mine. It can get very tall - sort of in the name! But you can trim it to any height. One thing that is not mentioned, is that it's a wetland plants - though it does just fine in ordinary conditions and can even tolerate some drought, it will grow in standing water. This can make a great waterside plant for ponds or bog gardens. Excellent cut flowers too. Once it starts to bloom, it keeps going to a very hard frost.

What are the pros? Good cut, great color

What are the cons? hard to germinate

Review:

Took me two years to get successful germination on this but very worth it. Very pretty, handles the heat well and lots of torrential rain. Pretty addition to a bouquet.

What are the pros? Easy to grow.

What are the cons? None

Review:

Blooms late summer in my western NY garden when direct sown in spring. Very distinctive, graceful cascading flowers. Birds will vie for the seeds in fall.
