The mix includes selections from the entire range of the Spencer types: pure white, dainty bicolor pinks and salmons, scarlet, burgundy and midnight purple. The Spencers were among the earliest large-flowered types; all are heavily ruffled; fine for cutting. They tend to carry a moderate fragrance.

What are the pros?
What are the cons?
I sowed the seeds of these and the Royal Mix, in November, in my zone 9 garden. Tons of them came up and covered the trellis. They started to bloom in March, but we have had over three months of no rain, record heat( 90+ in April and May). The horrible winds knocked my trellis down, the bottoms of the sweet peas were starting to turn brown, so I just left them to go to seed. Well, it's May 11th and they are blooming like crazy. And the thrips that were destroying the blooms in April are gone, so I am getting this lovely second flush.Sweet peas are not the easiest thing to grow in Houston, but these have lifted my drought-weary spirits!
