(Lavandula vera) Famous for fragrance, the lavender-colored blossoms are used in potpourris, soaps, etc. A great old-time cottage garden plant.

Here are some germination tips passed on from a customer:

1. Pour the seeds into a jar, and add about two tablespoons of water.

2. Put the lid on the jar, and put in the refrigerator for six weeks.

3. Remove the seeds from the jar - pour out onto a paper towel.

4. Plant seeds in seed starter. I use peat. It is not easy to separate seeds, so it is OK if there are several seeds planted together - see Step 6 below.

5. Keep moist. Seeds will germinate in - yes - a week.

6. About a month after germination, seedlings can be separated, and transferred to individual cells or small pots.

What are the pros? Lovely fragrance.

What are the cons? None.

Review:

I cold stratified these seeds last year and had excellent germination. The plants grew to 6" inches or more since they were seeded in March. I'm very happy with this lavender plant and will probably seed more this year.

Lavender needs heat to germinate. Soooo i dont think its fair to under rate this if you dont give it what it needs. It is a beautiful lavender. Thanks for such a wonderful specimen.

I bought the seed two years ago. This was my second harvest and I had a bumper crop. I have used it in soap, tea, and jelly. Wonderful product.

Review:

I simply cannot get this Lavender to germinate. I've not try to grow Lavender before, and i've read on the internet that it can be tricky. I think it likes heat, and at the moment, all I have to offer is RAIN (Thailand, rainy season). So I don't know if I wait for the season to change... I might have more success. (If I do I will update this review). However, as it stands, I have not yet managed to get one seed to germinate. :(

Review:

zone 7a Started seeds in cells in the greenhouse (by greenhouse i mean a bunch of poles with plastic tarp over it) in Feb and have still not come up. There wasn't any growing info on the seed packet I received. I have since looked at some other packets and seen that they perhaps need a period of cold to germinate.
