Named for the traditional flat-bottom boat that is used by the Cajuns in the swamps of Louisiana. This old heirloom was given by the Indians to the Cajuns and passed down through the years. Given by a Creole man to Kurt Bridges, who then supplied us with some seed. We grow the plants for their beauty, as they grow 4 feet tall, have big, wide leaves and produce loads of gorgeous sunset-pink flowers. Traditionally used by the Cajuns, but it is poisonous along with all tobacco.

What are the pros? Beautiful in flower beds

What are the cons? Hard to grow

Review:

I got these to germinate but that was pretty much it. Teeny seedlings that were miniscule (this is a very, VERY tiny seed!) but they never progressed beyond that and dampened off despite how careful I was with watering. Yet I grew the lime green variety I bought as a small plant from a nursery no problem and that one ended up nearly 3 feet tall. Very possible I started these too late for my area (zone 8A) I still have seed so will try again next year, but earlier. But I love nicotiana and they do look great in my flower beds.

Review:

I have grown nicotiana for years, the woodland and mutabalis are my favorites, but now I have to say this one is my new garden star! The scale of the soft pale green leaves, ruffle intothe stem. They have one central stem, mine are over 4', and are blooming now. The plant is a lovely focal point in my perennial borders! My clients who have visited my garden are instantly in love!
