(Nigella damascena) A splendid mix of colors, with wispy, feathery foliage surrounding the beautiful blue, white, pink, and purplish-blue blooms. Love-in-a-mist dates back to English gardens of the 1570s. A very attractive flowering plant.

What are the pros? Color and delicate flower

What are the cons? Hard to get started

Review:

Tried these this year. I started them in the green house and they took forever to get going. I transplanted them to the garden and eventually they did take off. The blooms were stunning but so delicate looking. The wonderful thing is, it is now December and the seeds in the garden have germinated and their coming up all over the garden. Naturally, not were I want them so I dug them up with plenty of dirt and moved them to where I want them and there loving life. We've had several good frosts already and they don't care at all. I am so excited to think I'm going to have the garden filled with these from now on.

What are the pros? Easy to grow, reseeds

What are the cons? None

Review:

Love the flowers and the seed pods too. Planted a large container last year with Purple Gleam California poppies, love-in-a-mist and white cosmos. It was very airy and delicate looking. Lots of compliments from visitors. Will repeat this combo yearly. Very lovely!

In a year of unbelievable drought, these flowers were one of the few things to grow. The seeds are delicious with a 'grape kool-aid' flavor than my child loves!

Review:

I got a packet of these for free with my seed order and I love them. They look like a mix of cosmos and passion flowers, but they are much less fussy than passion flower. I was able to get some really good pictures of them earlier in the summer and I'm hoping they reseed I'd love to have these a bonus plants next year! They are nice compact upright flowers that grow between 18-24 inches. I'm planning to replace some of my container petunias with these next year! Thanks so much for the beautiful surprise! :)

Review:

I got these as a complimentary packet with two of my orders and they are such an interesting flower. They feel fantastic and look great too. They are like two flowers in one once the seed pods develop. I think it is a good idea to remove the pods because they self-sow readily.
