60 days. Tall, 3’- 4’ plants are covered with very long rope-like flowers that are a deep, brilliant red color. One of the most striking plants for any garden and so easy to grow. Amaranth is one of our favorite crops! A good seed producer, too. This is a very old heirloom, a pre-1700 variety, that was very popular. Leaves are tasty as cooked greens.

Review:

I have been growing The different varities for five years. Some easily went over 8 feet. Love lies, was started in 2 inches of mud on a slate plate, cut in squares to transplant. Sparingly spread seed nearly all germinated. Four plants last year yeilded about 15,000 seeds. Grew well with 5 hours of sun.

I ordered these seeds by accident and figured I would start them in an unused corner of the garden. Surprise! A stunningly beautiful plant. Next year, they are front and center.

Planted these late in the summer. They came up very fast with little attention. EASY to take care of and a MUST have to add to your garden. Great attention getter! Wonderful addition to a flower arrangement.

Review:

I grew this Amaranth Red last summer here in far Northern CA where it gets triple digit heat every year. I planted it on the south side of my house next to a wall in a old wood box which measures 15"x28" X 15" deep. The plant was supposed to grow to 3'-4' tall. Mind you....I planted NINE plants from seeds covered lightly. Watered everyday all season by nozzle. They ALL sprouted and grew above the ROOF of the house to NINE FEET TALL before the beautiful seed strands began to droop down another FOUR FEET! I had to support them by tieing them up just below the gutter. They were absolutely stunning! I wish I could post a pic with this review!

Review:

This is my first attempt at growing ornamental amaranth. I grew both this version and the green one, side by side in a 6 gallon container alongside our veggie garden. The 'dreadlocks' grew so long I had to sit the container atop a small table to keep them from dragging on the ground ! This plant draws a lot of attention.Visitors to the garden always want to know what it is. I think the red version is more attractive, but the combination alongside the green one makes the red 'pop' even more... It will be a regular in our garden from now on.
