Delicious, sweet and tender describe the flavorful fruit of “Ma-Zu” eggplant. This variety bears deep purple fruit that are 8”-12” long and 2” in diameter. This favorite of Taiwanese farmers grows perfectly in warm areas and produces lots of fruit over a long period of time.

What are the pros? good flavor, tender skins

What are the cons? none

Review:

I've grown these for two years now, and they're great. They give decent yields despite the flea beetles, which I'm too lazy to fight. If you like the Ping Tung eggplant, you'll like these too.

What are the pros? Superbly Delicious

What are the cons? Difficult to germinate.

Review:

Ma-Zu Purple Chinese Eggplant is superbly delicious and quick-cooking. No bitterness at all... I can cook it with the skin on. So far, Ma-Zu is my favorite of all the long, purple Asian eggplants. It's productive all summer and enjoys our intense heat and humidity. The long, very slender eggplants look exactly like the photo.

What are the pros? tender, sweet

What are the cons? none

Review:

A deliciously tender and sweet and long long eggplant. Even at 14 inches the eggplants were seedless and tasty, so they probably could grow much longer. The one plant I grew was stunted due to being planted right next to the lawn, even so it was setting 3 eggplants at a time and the fruit matured very quickly. The first fruit was picked about 75 days from planting out the seedling. I use food grade diatomaceous earth to fight against the dreaded flea beetle.
