45 days—Superior newer leaf lettuce in rich, lustrous deep Roman purple, almost ebony—possibly one of the darkest we've seen! Leaves are deeply crinkled or savoyed, with toothed edges; hearts are very densely packed for a leaf type. So sweet and delicious!

What are the pros? color, easy germination, hardy

What are the cons? none

Review:

Tried this lettuce for the first time this spring and it held its own against other varieties I grow. Solid germination and a wonderful addition to salads as baby lettuce or full grown. It's in a spot that receives morning sun and very little afternoon sun. Very good flavor, color and hasn't bolted in warmer weather yet compared to other greens. I'm definitely going to save seed and continue growing this variety.

What are the pros? easy to grow, stunning color

What are the cons? none

Review:

I purchased Midnight Ruffles from another source back in 2011 or 2012 and have been growing it since. It is my favorite lettuce due to its ease of care, flavor, and stunning dark color. Picked small, it makes an amazing addition to baby green salads, but I enjoy it most by itself. In my experience, it will bolt fairly quickly once weather warms up here in SC KS (by the end of May), and sets a LOT of seed if you let it flower (I have enough to last a lifetime at this point). In 2013, I accidentally allowed a plant to re-seed the bed, and the unprotected seedlings which emerged survived through the winter. They started growing again as soon as it warmed up in spring, leading me to consider trying Midnight Ruffles for my winter garden this year, rather than spring. If it works, I may have to come back and report.
