We are excited to offer this great old variety from the "Show Me" state. It produces round, 20-lb melons with pale green skin and bright golden-yellow flesh that is crisp, sweet and refreshing. A really nice yellow type that is hard to find.

What are the pros? The taste & texture!!!

What are the cons? The years without

Review:

Just wanted to let everyone know I tried growing this year and it was held back (as was everything else except purple long beans) by the torrential rains we've had. Didn't start fruiting until the constant rain stopped in mid August so they won't mature this year. THAT BEING SAID THIS IS STILL THE BEST WATERMELON I'VE EVER EATEN. Even if you must try for a decade to get it to grow it's sooo worth it!! I think these would do lovely in a desert environment with irrigation. I agree with the poster who said if you leave them too long they become pithy. I was a nervous wreck when I picked our first one but it happened to be perfect. Watch them and go for it!

What are the pros? TASTE!!

What are the cons? Takes up a great deal of space

Review:

We grew this a couple of years ago when we had a very dry hot year. Day after day of triple digits killed a couple of the other watermelons I tried but Missouri Heirloom thrived. I've never been especially successful growing watermelons (except for Sugar Baby) but Missouri Heirloom were very strong plants we grew without pest problems. Huge melons with deliciously sweet yellow-orange flesh were wonderful. The vines do run rampant so give this baby plenty of room. I should also note we watered daily during the worst of the heat and drought.

What are the pros? easy to tell when ripe

What are the cons? none

Review:

You must try this variety! It turns a lighter color so you know its ripe. If you let it go too long it gets a little mealy, same as all watermelons tho. Very flavorful and juicy. Even the rind, you can eat so much of it its just so juicy.

Review:

Definitely agree with a previous reviewer. On a scale of 1 to 10 for flavor, these melons "go to 11!" I plan on growing these watermelons every year. Well worth a try.
