What are the pros? seed harvest, aroma & flavor
What are the cons? grows as an annual in nj
Decided to buy this on a whim as I was in the mood grow something new and possibly find a plant that could be used as a tea plant. From the description this plant seemed similar to lemon balm. So one winter i decided to throw some seeds in some starter pots.I found little info whether they needed stratifying or not. Well in the early spring these guys all germinated no problem! I had and unfortunate mishap with the containers falling over and losing my plants but the one i did save did great! Flowers do crap out around late summer and early fall. But they do give way to seed pods to harvest! I wouldn't suggest letting the seeds drop because they will germinate in early fall, not flower, and not return. Check the plants often for dry seed pods. Seeds will be similar color to basil.Oh.and that flavor and aroma is great too. Would be good in tea blends or on its own. not sure whether the leaves or flowers are best to harvest though. Needless to say, i'll give this a go next year!
