What are the cons? sweet
First time grower of this heirloom watermelon. Size doesn't matter although flavor does. Very sweet with a vanilla accent. When harvested some stated the melons weren't ripe. Most in South Eastern Ohio along the Ohio River are used to more generic varieties.

We grew this great melon in SE Iowa during the second year of a drought. We achieved 100% germination, planting in 6 hills, 5 seeds per hill. Thinned the plants early to 3 per hill. Speckled foliage was really cool. Didn't realize it did that. Vines were strong, and spread well over garden. Eventually crept out into yard. Harvested around 18 melons, from 5 to 35 lbs. I was hoping for some big ol moon on a few of them, but all I got was some small moons and lots of stars. lol. Flavor is excellent, texture is perfect and yes, there are lots of seeds. We love that, but it is the first thing a lot of people say that try it. Just cleaned up the last of the vines today. Great variety, would highly recommend and will be growing again.

Grown in central Missouri. Produced smaller ~10 lb. melons. Probably due to record heat and drought. But the flavor was excellent and will be growing them again.
This is my favorite melon. We have a big family so this is a much better sized melon for us. When you pick them at the right time, they beat any melon I've tasted. We got a 45 pounder last year, and a 40 pounder the year before. We're growing them again this year.

We grew these last year on the GA coast just south of Savannah. They were a little slow to stare but once they got going they were hard to stop. I loved the speckled foliage. It was as pretty a ground cover as you could ask for. The first melons ripened shortly after July 4 and continued producing new fruit (they will reseed themselves like weeds) till November when we finally had to give in and clean up. They are crisp and classily sweet. Lovely to share with friends and family.
