What are the pros? the taste, juiciness,

What are the cons? slow to germinate

Review:

I live in zone 5b (Ontario). I decided to try this, because I LOVE spinach, but it refuses to grow for me! This plant is QUITE slow to germinate, to the point where I was about to re-seed the area....It does grow a little slowly at first, but then takes off! long vines of many, many leaves. I used it sparingly, because of another commenter's post about it being high in oxalic acid (worried about getting gout)... But I didn't have problems with gout while eating this... I didn't find it bitter like others say, but it does have a slightly stronger flavor than spinach, if you plan on eating it raw. LOVE this plant, and am so happy to be able to grow it again this season!

What are the pros? great grower

What are the cons? thick leaves

Review:

Great spinach when small. Leaves are very thick. These plants sprouted easily and grew to cover more than 2 rows in the garden (5 foot wide!). Great grower, but I'll be trying some other varieties as the thick leaves were sometimes difficult to work with in salads and other things.

What are the pros? Nothing ate it

What are the cons? none

Review:

I grew this plant last year, and was amazed by the yield. It just kept on growing until we had a hard frost, when it finally died back. We used it in salads and sandwiches, as well as a cooked green. We even put it in lasagne. Even though the write-up claimed that is was slow to germinate, I didn't find this to be the case. Direct sewn into my raised beds, it grew quickly and spread up over the sides of the beds to trail beautifully.

What are the pros? Perennial...

What are the cons? None

Review:

Sowed seeds a few years ago in late spring; comes out (re-seeds itself!) every spring... in my zone 5 (five) in Ontario, Canada!!! It grows like a weed (absolutely no help from me!) and tastes like spinach. We had to give away (LOTS) to neighbours and friends. I see that people in the South complain that it does not do very well in the summer heat; well, New Zealand is milder than Texas or Alabama, folks:)

What are the pros? it is finally arriving!

What are the cons? doesn't like our heat

Review:

we are over 100 a lot in the summer and it just sat dormant in the garden until Sept/Oct but is really taking off now. So I don't know that it likes this much heat! Will enjoy through fall it appears. Some powder mildew issues but it seems somewhat resistant as its still growing and producing.
