A rare, large bottle gourd from Nigeria. Elongated to 18 inches with a bulbous neck and base. Great for crafts and bottle making.

What are the pros? lovely shapely gourd-fruit

What are the cons? puny vines, assassin bugs

Review:

This is my third time growing this variety over the past decade. It has scrappy, sparse foliage growth similar to another gourd variety I've grown "Corsican sugar bowl." Not one to be grown for guaranteed luxuriant vine coverage over arbors or fences! It attracts assassin-bugs like mad; something I barely have enough quantity of to notice unless I grow this variety. With more vigorous varieties that do better around here, I only see assassin bugs on weaker plants that need a good watering. And only on young, soft fruit. My Nigerian Saybo fruit struggles with these bugs until it hardens to yellow/brown. It really does have a shapely, lovely gourd fruit. I have a faint memory of seeing this exact type of gourd painted like a blue heron, with pronged sticks for legs-feet.

What are the cons?

Review:

oh wow, I love all those gourds! Is Tenterden road near Tenterden? I want to see that stall! I have got a few pumpkins and squashes I've been collecting over autumn hanging on my kitchen, but I am gradually using them up and would love to stock up on them.I like the idea of chocolate porridge, will have to try that.
