Northern Ruby Tomato

1 Review | Write a Review
65 days, indeterminate--Selected out of Heinz 2653 over a period of 20 years by the Baty family of Montana, this variety takes cool conditions that stop most others! All-purpose fruits are juicy enough for fresh use, yet meaty enough for canning. Very full romato taste, few seeds. A Baker Creek exclusive!

What are the pros? high yield, easy care, flavor

What are the cons? Late to ripen

First time growing these toms. Initially bought them because they are an earlier variety. I live in the North with a very short growing season. I also have limited growing space, so I thought this compact variety may do well in a pot. It did excellent! High yields of smaller, bright red gems with such a sweet and tangy flavor. One of my favorite flavors I grew out of 14 heirloom varieties. The flesh is firm and would make a great sauce. These tomatoes were uniform in shape and color, did not crack or split, and I didn't have any trouble with disease. (Even though I fought leaf spot in many of my others). My ONLY disappointment was that they did not ripen as early as expected. It is mid september now and most are still green. However, all my tomatoes are behind this year. Even with being slower to ripen, I will be planting more of these next year.
