Review:

I sowed some seeds on the top of a 5 gallon bucket with a mix of good soil, horse manure and hay. They quickly sprouted and I soon had these tiny reddish seedlings all over the bucket. They continue to grow beautifully and will have to thin out to only a few. The tender leaves are a greenish-bronze on the top and a magenta-pinkish on the bottom. Less than 30 days after sowing, I was munching on the leaves, straight from the garden. I have substituted lettuce for amaranth in sandwiches and soft tacos. I hope I will get a good seed harvest for next season. I live south of San Antonio, TX and we are dealing with drought and hot conditions. We have water restrictions so I only water them when they really need it and the plants are thriving next to my tomato and bell pepper plants.
