What are the pros? Exceptional color & flavor
What are the cons? none
Taste: I originally planted orach to feed to my bunny but I can't stop eating it! It makes even the most mundane salads exciting with it's brilliant fuchsia color and subtle mineral flavor. I have not tried a hot preparation yet but as a cousin to spinach I am sure the meaty mature leaves would make a nice addition or substitute to any such dish.
Growing: I live in zone 10 and I planted these seeds along side my winter lettuce crop. It sprouted along with the lettuces but was a slow starter. I have not found it to be bitter at all, but I suspect heat, soil, and the age of the plant may affect it's flavor.
