85 days. A local heirloom from the Missouri Ozarks, that has been grown by the Oran Ball family for over 50 years. Large 6-8 lb. fruit are netted and ribbed, the flesh is a rich orange color and the flavor is very good. Excellent for the mid-west region.

What are the pros? Fruit size, texture and taste

What are the cons? Bunnies like it too

Review:

I am so happy with this melon. It germinated well, grew great vines and several fairly large fruit per vine. Love the texture of the meaty flesh. Nice hint of honey with an old time cantaloupe flavor. My family's new favorite

What are the pros? tast, yield

What are the cons? 3 to 4 pounds only

Review:

I got 5 per plant. Taste was wonderful and they were juicy. Better than Hales Best Jumbo. They didn't get 6 to 8 pounds. Stayed in the 3 to 4 pound range. One out of 40 melons got to 5 pounds. They are very tasty though and I'm gonna over look the issue of size. No disease issues yet. This one and Ha'ogen are my favorites now. Looking for a third favorite now. Texas zone 8b. Grown organic.

Review:

I planted the whole packet, which came to about 40 plants. The first one was nicely ripe, came right off the vine. I tried it and was not impressed. The texture was good, and it was juicy, but the flavor was very bland. The next few were some of the best I have ever had. No kidding, they were really good! They were fragrant, juicy, delicious! I gave a couple of them to my sister and brother in law, who are melon connoisseurs. They said it was the best they had had this year, and they couldn't help referring back to them after the conversation had moved on. I don't know why I had a bad one before a lot of good ones, but these things just happen sometimes. I have a lot more in the garden, and I'm eager to pick them!

Review:

I loved the texture of this melon, its nice and meaty, gives you something to bite into; however the flavor leaves a lot to be desired. I normally like room temperature melon, fresh out of the garden is best, but this melon really needs to get good and cold in the fridge for it to start to taste good. It developed some decent flavor in the fridge. I will try growing it one more time, but its' really nothing fantastic for me.
