What are the pros? Good-bug-friendly, pretty
What are the cons? none
This oregano has been with us for years in our slightly clayey Z4 garden. I think the mature plants overwinter here, but like lemon balm and a few others, it sows itself with such gusto that it's always around even if some plants winterkill. Personally, we think it's a poor culinary herb - true Greek oregano or marjoram are better - but it's fantastic for beneficial insects. It's also pretty and cheerful, and may be a good companion plant for some of the sturdier vegetables. Easy to weed out when it gets overabundant. Pluses far outweigh its deficit in flavor. One year I decided to get rid of it all, then was glad to find that I'd missed some - it's a good little garden buddy.
