Unique fruit have a yellow/lime-colored rind with jagged deep green stripes. The flesh is pink-red, sweet and tasty. This Soviet variety did well here in the Ozarks and was productive. Fruit weigh about 13 lbs. Introduced to the USA by Seed Savers Exchange in 1992.

Review:

This is absolutely my favorite [overall] watermelon. Everybody who tried it loved it. Russian varieties do VERY well here in Southwest Michigan. The flavor is not too sweet but just right. Cool and crisp. Osh Kirgizia and Cream of Saskatchewan are grown every year I have a watermelon plot.

Great flavor. Great sweetness. Great size (just right for 2 or 3 little boys to gobble up). Fit just fine in the fridge. Several melons per vine. Never had a bug problem. Love the heat. Grow well in dry and wet years both. One of my favorite melons. Grown it several years in south Louisiana and will continue to do so.

Tried this variety last year here in Hawaii on our farm where it gets very hot in summer and sometimes humid as well. The vines were strong, vigorous and very productive. In our taste test at the farmers market this was #1. People begin to realize it's not just about being sweet but in some melons there are flavors that come through also. This is a wonderful melon.

Review:

I have grown this melon for several years with great production and the taste is a true rich-crisp watermelon flavor. I love the flavor of the Blach Diamond melon but this one is even much better.
