(Musa velutina) Lovely, small banana plants produce the most stunning, glowing, brilliant pink banana you will ever see. They are edible, but very seedy. Plants have large leaves that grow up to 24" long and add a wonderful tropical effect to your yard or patio. This species is relatively hardy, taking a few degrees of frost fairly well. Ripe fruit will start to split open when ready to eat. Showy and fun to grow! Can be hard to germinate, but is then easy to grow.

Review:

Just read this on germinating seed and thought it may be of use. Sowing: Sow indoors at any time of year. Sow seeds as soon as you are able. If you are not going to sow them, store them in their packaging in a cool, dark, dry place. (Do not refrigerate) Soak seed for 3-4 days in warm water, which has been previously boiled. Change the water each day. (This process is important, as gets rid of germination inhibitors) Fill either large cells or trays with perlite, vermiculite or sterilized compost. Stand the trays in water until the medium is completely moist Sow the seeds 2.5cm (1”) deep. Spray the seeds with a little copper based fungicide Bottom heat is helpful, place in a propagator if you have one or in a warm location out of direct sunlight. Do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep at a constant temperature of 20-25?C (68-77?F). Check the seeds daily for germination. If mold or fungus appears, remove the seeds and wash them in warm water. Spray them with fungicide an

I grew lotus from seed this year and managed very well so I am not blaming myself, however, the banana seed refused to germinate. Not a one.

What are the pros? Looked Unique

What are the cons? Zero % Germination

Review:

I ordered quite a few different types of seeds from this company and had at least 80% germination with all of them, except for these pink banana seeds. I used grow lights and seedling heat mats and couldn't get a single one to grow at all. This was surprising since I had read that they were fairly easy to grow from seed. I even had a friend get some pink banana seeds from another company and do the same thing I did with grow lights and heat mats and they at least had a 60% germination rate.

What are the pros? Nothing

What are the cons? Zero Germination

Review:

I am pretty successful in germinating seeds. I was not able to germinate a single pink banana seed. I use heat mats, seed starting mix, grow lights and even a climate controlled greenhouse without any success. I was very disappointed.

Review:

This just a suggestion: You may want to Soak the SEEDS in 500 PPM of Gibberllic acid overnight before planting.. this should increase the germination. PROGIBB is one supplier of 4% GA
