Pink Okra (Abelmoschus moschatus) Here is something different and charming! Petite little plants with deeply lobed dark green leaves are smothered in vibrant pink, five-petaled flowers, each with a snow-white center! Attracts hordes of bees and butterflies. Plants reach to 3 feet, sometimes more in favored locations. This plant is variously described as an okra or a hibiscus (they are closely related anyway), but it does produce a small edible pod. Flowering may be prolonged by frequently removing spent blooms. Self-sows generously, may be perennial in mild climates.

What are the pros? Pretty flowers

What are the cons? Pod is barely edible

Review:

Nice as an ornamental but don't plant this to eat. The pods are paper thin and quickly turn to a paper taste while very small. If you pick them the day after blooming, it's edible but extremely tiny and not tasty. After that it's just like eating tissue paper. Grows very slow but hangs in there well.

What are the pros? Looks great in July, August

What are the cons? None

Review:

Took a few months for this plant to get started, but well worth the wait. Very ornamental. Beautiful pink flowers open each morning. Prolific production. Next year this is going in my front yard right next to the walkway.

What are the pros? don't know, YET!

What are the cons? Don't know, YET!!

Review:

This is not sabdariffa, The seed pod is too smooth. And the flower is different. Sabdariffa grows all over the Caribbean.

What are the pros? don't know

What are the cons? haven't grown this plant

Review:

Reply for Monica reviewer: this isn't the African hibiscus tea. That's hibiscus sabdariffa or colloquially jamaican roselle (it's sold here on rares seeds under thai red roselle and is a fabulous ornamental, edible snack and tea maker.)

Review:

Not a review per se. Is this the same plant they use in AFRICA as a Hibiscus "TEA"; they sell dried 'flowers' on the market. Wondering if it is the same plant. I have seen this same flower in AFRICA, MEAST, ASIA.....
