What are the pros? lovely and tasty

What are the cons? none

Review:

I started these from seed in pots 3 summers ago, transplanted to garden soil at the end of that summer and now have had a few edibles this spring ( delicious) and expect a bumper crop next spring. They like consistant moisture and do not be over zealous in trimming back brown stalks during growing season. Beautiful, delicious and plentiful Worth the wait!

We started ours last summer and it looks like they pretty much all made it through the winter. We had moved some to their permanent bed in the fall and I moved the remaining today. I love the green and purple together.

Planted six of these and six Mary Washington from a local packet in pellets and both of them had 100% germination rate, though this one germinated one day earlier at 11 days. I just transplanted 9 of them to a bed mixed with vermicast, as the tops were getting to be about six inches tall. It took about 2 1/2 weeks to get to this point, which was a lot faster than I expected. I live in Honolulu, HI.Started a new batch and will hopefully have a nice bed of about 20 plants in the bed by mid April. Hopefully this is enough even with females.

Review:

This year I raised three varieties (Sweet Purple & Jersey All-Male) of asparagus from seeds. This one had the highest germination rate from a controlled mini-greenhouse, and at the end of the season, was the largest and healthiest of the three varieties. We just transferred about 75 plants of this to our community garden. I think I'll order more to sell at the Farmer's Market, and for replacing male plants next fall from the current lot.

It took almost 25 days for the direct sow seeds to germinate. Just as I was thinking the worst they came up in full force with almost 100% germination rate.
