70 days. The most unique and beautiful French melon we sell! The fruit is 4-9 lbs., very flattened and ribbed, with warts and bumps. Melons have grey/green skin turning straw color; flesh is salmon-orange. Once one of the best known melons, it was mentioned in the 1860's, but it likely is much older. The flavor is very rich if picked at perfection, and the fragrance is heavenly. This is a favorite melon of mine; almost unheard of in this country.

What are the pros? Gorgeous!

What are the cons? Not very sweet

Review:

We held onto the seeds for about 2 years. It grows so well and beautifully. In our dry. hot climate, we needed to water regularly in the hot summer months. The melon we harvested was just stunning in appearance. It could fool people to thinking they were squash. Once cut open. the melon closest to the skin is almost green and firm with a honeydew like color. The inner flesh is more like a cantaloupe. Although it's gorgeous, the flavor is very subtle. Perhaps this would be a melon that will pair beautifully with prosciutto or be a great addition to a salad since it's not very sweet. I am sure it would be just the right melon for that top chef somewhere in NYC who is looking to find something unique.!

What are the pros? Resistant to splitting

What are the cons? Not very sweet

Review:

Fun melon to watch grow. Good germination rate and has been easy to grow. Not the sweetest melon but has an interesting flavor. Nice melon but I probably would not grow again because I prefer the sweeter ones.

What are the pros? Excellent Taste

What are the cons? Can split

Review:

Living in the hot, humid tropics of the Big Island I have been trying some heirloom cantaloupe varieties. Prescott Fond Blanc has amazingly weird appearance, but actually tastes very good with a nice firm flesh. Our climate is very rainy, followed by hot, sunny weather which leads to splitting for many types of vegetables. This variety is more resistant to slugs and snails than the Charentais, and germination rates were nearly 100%. The vines are not quite as productive as the Charentais, but I have already gotten a 4 lbs melon and several smaller ones. When ripe they are fragrant, but I think I will stick with other melon varieties once these stop producing. Cutting the melons up is really cool as they are more pumpkin like on the outside than melon like, but my sons have been eating this melon up as fast as they ripen.

What are the pros? Gorgeous

What are the cons? Flavor was lacking

Review:

This melon is unique with it's beautiful, straw colored, warty skin, and it was a pleasure to watch grow and to cut into... but the flavor was just okay. It was edible, but for me, it was just... okay. It smelled heavenly when approaching a ripe one in the garden, so I expected more from this gorgeous fruit. I will not grow again as there are too many fantastic options out there to try. It also put out a decent amount of melons for where I planted it, which had some shade in the later part of the day. I also grew the Charentais melon (seeds sold here) and it is fantastic! Tastes like caramel and honey... mmMmm! I wrote a review on it. I highly recommend that one!
