(Long-day) Oblong shaped, bright red onions; great for planting spring or fall; seems to do well in many areas. They are very mild and sweet, great for salads and pickling! A delicious Italian heirloom. Very rare.

What are the pros? doesn't quit early

What are the cons? also doesn't stop growing

Review:

This is a solid onion, very firm, and quite strong smelling when cooked. I like them but my husband finds the taste and smell too much. But the real strong and weak point is that it doesn't quit growing when it gets cooler. I was still removing them in late September and had to force dormancy. It didn't work. They kept growing in the refrigerator! However, they stayed pretty firm even then. I live in central Ohio zone 5. I would recommend them but I don't think that they are good keepers since I have been using them up as they grow and won't have any around over the winter to see how they perform in long time storage.

What are the pros? Everything

What are the cons? I didn't plant enough

Review:

I typically don't like onions, but this type is a major winner! Fantastic flavor and great production. I eat the red bulb like candy after I lightly fry it in olive oil with salt and pepper. The greens are excellent in any dish, and everyone that has tried them raves about the flavor and wants to know where they can get them.

What are the pros? Grows nicely at 7000 ft.

What are the cons? attracted unexpected pest

Review:

Lovely onion, mild taste, easy to grow. I live over 7000 ft. so for me is really struggle to find plants that can sustain conditions at this height. This onion was experiment, and I had to start it first indoors, but I managed to get some of it growing. The reason why I would skip it this year is my dog. Turned out that he really likes this kind of onion, so much that he risked electric fence just to get to it.

What are the pros? Strong flavor

What are the cons? Small Yield

Review:

I planted over a dozen of these and only 4 made it to maturity. The 4 I did get were delicious! So, I'll try again next year...maybe it was our cooler temps or they didn't get the right sun.
