80 days. Lovely 8”x4” neon, lavender-pink fruits have a mild, sweet, white flesh. The skin is tender, and not bitter. Produces excellent yields. This incredible heirloom was developed in Puerto Rico in the 1940’s by the Puerto Rico Agric. Expt. Sta., Rio Piedras. One of our favorites every season.

What are the pros? Vigorous plant amazing fruit

What are the cons? No dislikes

Review:

I have to write about this amazing plant as I am impressed. It germinated well and I planted it in a raised bed that I added in my front yard with intention of incorporating vegetables while keeping curb appeal to my town property. The plants grew very thick stems and huge leaves and remind me of little trees. I saw big purple flowers but it took some time to develop fruit. Once the fruit started to develop it made so many big neon perfectly shaped fruit . I trimmed off the lower leaves and stems so the neon rosy fruit is very visible and abundant and is stopping people passing by. gorgeous looking with rose petunias around it, some glads and Black Hungarian wax peppers next to them. Delicious taste with very tiny seeds that are not felt in the cooked eggplant. I want to repeat growing this every year.

What are the pros? Pretty color

What are the cons? Took a long time to get going

Review:

My first ever eggplant! I've grown tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, carrots, and beets before. The Rosita was an experiment this year. For the first few months, the flowers would all dry up and not produce. I even tried all the tricks for polination! But then at the start of July, it started taking fruits. (Maybe change in my watering, due to drought conditions? We can only water 3 times a week.) Haven't harvested any yet (suggests 8" long?? Longest one I have is about 5", should I harvest?) and while the photo shows them a solid color, mine are stripey at best, while the first one is a pale lavender hue. Most also have a burn on the bottom, IDK if from the heat? Can't wait to try this, since the reviews suggest a good-tasting flesh. But now that it's going, I have several fruits growing all at once.

What are the pros? No seeds, great flavor

What are the cons? Disappointing production

Review:

I grew two plants in pots last year and I hope that's the reason they were not at all productive. I gave some plants to my neighbor who did not get one fruit from hers (in stock tanks, not pots). We also had an unusually rainy summer for northern CO. I have to try these again, this year in the ground. I'm hoping they'll be as productive as people say. They were the most delicious eggplants I've ever had, with a smooth flavor, thin skin, tiny, almost non-existent seeds. Keeping my fingers crossed I'll get more fruit!

What are the pros? Prolific, few seeds

What are the cons? none

Review:

I have grown these beauties in large containers. You need to stay on top of watering, and they are heavy drinkers. I usually had five fruits on a single plant at a time. While eggplant need extra care for insects, these did well with just an organic spray. The flavor is great, and they are not prone to get seedy, unless you let them get extra large. With growing four different varieties in a year, this plant in a mainstay for me.

What are the pros? taste color

What are the cons? none

Review:

Beautiful flawless color. Delicious sweet mild taste. I have a large collection of eggplant seeds, but will only grow Rosita and Malaysian Red 2014. I find the Italian eggplants to be the best.
