What are the pros? works well for what I need

What are the cons? none

Review:

I always bring rue into the house in the summer. If you cut the leaves and put them in a bowl of fruit, you won't see a fruit fly anywhere. they hate the smell. Just make sure that the leaves are green and you may have to rub them a bit. It is the best organic pest control I've ever seen and I will always have rue in my garden, not only for the lovely flowers but also to keep my summer kitchen free of those annoying pests.

What are the pros? Hardy

What are the cons? Strong flavor

Review:

Living in minnesota, I don't expect any plant, much less herb, to survive the winter left outdoors. Rue did it. After all of the snow melted, there it was, still green. It survived a minnesota winter, only to be picked bare by my kids. Not sure if it will recover from that. The stalk is pretty thick, and I will continue checking on it to see if any new leaves pop out as spring progresses. The smell and flavor is too strong for me, but my kids love to munch it. It's almost an herbaceous acrid smell. I am obviously not very good at describing it! I read somewhere that ingesting too much of it at once can be harmful, although my kids seem fine. They have stomachs of steel though.

What are the pros? dry, sunny spot

What are the cons? none

Review:

I love rue because it is a host plant for both the black swallowtail butterfly and to the giant swallowtail butterfly. It is a wonderful source of food for them.

What are the pros? Beautiful plant with fragrant

What are the cons? None

Review:

Poor rue is often misunderstood. The leaves are bitter and powerfully aromatic. Rue can be added to soups and stews for depth and complexity. If you add a small quantity of rue to soup (small branch for a medium size pot of soup) , your friends will ask for more, wondering where that lush smell comes from. As mentioned above the seeds germinate easily. The compact plant is beautiful and easy to grow and who knows one day you may pinch a few leaves into a dish and become a rue fan.

What are the pros? foliage

What are the cons? smell

Review:

I think that rue has terrific foliage but I really don't like the smell at all. However, it is a terrific addition to my front edible landscape as it adds a wonderful silvery-green foliage to contrast with rhubarb and salvias that are nearby. I directed sowed as I timing for space in the greenhouse was limited. Germination rate was high and the plants are robust. I recently started some more rue to plant near the hen house along with tansy, feverfew, and wormwood and the rue germinated quickly will soon be ready to plant out.
