Very large fruit have a hard, heavy and deeply ribbed rind; a very good shipper or home garden variety, salmon flesh is very flavorful, spicy and unique. A New York heirloom that is a favorite of melon expert Dr. Amy Goldman.

What are the pros? amazing flavor

What are the cons? only one fruit harvested

Review:

Seeded indoors, planted out on soil mound with lots of mulch some time after frost danger. Protection from critters turned out to be necessary and we used one foot high rabbit fencing and that did the trick. Watered well weekly throughout the summer. Lots of flowers but only one fruited. Harvested early September. It was worth the effort as the melon was large and the flavor was just wonderful. Will definitely try again.

Review:

Grew these in my zone 4 Wi garden on the south side of my house. I got 2 large melons per vine & they taste great. A very nice musk melon flavor but not super sweet. Will grow again!

we have grown this one for the last 4 years in north-central ohio, and it's the only one that has been consistantly productive, year after year, through wet summers and dry. the thick rind protects it from the milipedes that like to burrow into our other melons, and the flavor has been excellant :-)
