The caper bush is an extremely tenacious plant that struggles to survive on the parched rock walls in the mediterranean region. Across northern Africa into western Asia there are many species that are closely related. The plant here happens to inhabit the dry desolate cliffs of Dhofar in Southern Oman. The fruits ripen to a brilliant fire engine red and they are highly sought out by birds. The Ethnobotany of Oman and the Arabian Peninsula suggests that the fruits are also used as a condiment by humans. There is documented use of the flower buds being made into capers just like its relative in the mediterranean region. The plant will grow in a very dry area without frost, but one needs to comprehend that it is a desert plant and treat it accordingly. Seeds are easily germinated.

What are the pros? They do sprout very quickly
What are the cons? none
I have not experience them in maturity yet, but I do want everyone to know that these do sprout nicely. I only planted a few because, I wanted to save the rest for next year. The little sprouts made me proud. They are a good buy! I love Bakers Creek, please keep these rare ones coming!!
