Snow White Carrot

An attractive creamy-white carrot with a delicious, mild-sweet taste and a good crisp crunch. Roots grow 7”-8” long and are great raw or cooked. White carrots are again becoming popular with home gardeners and specialty growers after many years of neglect by the commercial seed trade. White varieties were common in the middle ages through the 19th century but then became scarce.

What are the pros? Easy to grow; good flavor

What are the cons? long time to harvest

Review:

This is a stunning carrot. My carrots are whiter and brighter than the ones shown in the photo. I've never grown carrots before, much of anything actually, and found them very easy to grow. Just keep the soil consistently moist til germination, be persistent, and then water regularly till they're ready to harvest. The flavor was sweet but not as sweet as the nantes I buy at the farmers markets. The only downside was the long time from planting to harvest. Seeds were planted in mid October and the first carrot was pulled in April. Maybe the winter daytime hours were too short. My carrots were of a good girth, about an inch in diameter, and softly crisp--not woody at all.

What are the pros? Love the white

What are the cons? none

Review:

This carrot was the second runner up out of 6 carrots I grew last year. It is very sweet, with a little more fiber than the amarillo. Everyone was stunned to see the bright white carrots. Very showy at the ThanksGiving table when mixed with the other colors. Lorri D

Review:

I planted these carrots last spring in North Carolina, in the coastal area. They had great tops, and looked promising, but they became woody before they were a size worth harvesting. I cannot recommend these for climates like mine.

Review:

I grew these in my northern California garden in a raised bed. I also grew St. Valery in the same bed. The Snow White grew a LOT of foliage, with girth at the base. The Snow White were very woody with distinct cores. Basically inedible.

Review:

I am a market grower and have sold out of Snow White's for the past several markets. They are also a good choice for children , elderly or anyone with tender teeth who still would like to enjoy raw carrots.
