70 days. The Vilmorins of France mentioned this variety in 1885 and said it had been grown a “long time” then. A large handsome variety with bright red-orange roots; smooth, 10”-12” long & 2”-3” in diameter. Sweet & tender. Rare. Our favorite!

What are the pros? Sweet flavor, nice & crisp

What are the cons? Didn't plant nearly enough!

Review:

I've tried all different varieties of carrots over the last several years. No question: St. Valery is the best of all in my S. Vermont garden. Excellent germination, strong growth, excellent flavor and storability. I fill up my big wheelbarrow with them from just one 30' row. This will be my main crop variety from now on.

Review:

Last year was my first attempt at growing carrots. I ordered St. Valery because it had an "our favorite" ranking from Baker. I also planted a small French globe shaped carrot. St. Valery was by far our favorite. No matter how large it got it was still crisp and sweet. It was excellent raw and cooked. (I boiled them lightly then poured out the water and added butter and brown sugar until the sugar dissolved : ) I had close to 100% germination and had delicious carrots in Winter, Spring and early Summer. Will plant in batches this year for more spread out harvests. Excellent sweet carrot that is better than anything the grocery store has to offer. Ordered 2 packs for this year!

Review:

This was my first year to grow carrots, I read the reviews and picked St. Valery because it was Baker's favorite. I love this variety. It was sweet and delicious raw or cooked. No matter how big it got it was still sweet. I will grow it every year from now on. I grew a round radish looking type as well but it did not have the sweetness, it tasted more like the root varieties we ate as kids in the 70's.

We have a big family and love the fact that these are big and good. We found that if planted in the spring and left in the ground until fall a good number of them began to send up flower stalks resulting in woody carrots. I hadn't seen this before with other varieties. So if you want carrots these in the fall, plant some later in the season.

Review:

Have tried many different carrots in my garden in Central NY. This is the only one that I now grow. I eat them all summer as the patch gets thinned. The "keepers" are the last things taken from the garden, usually Dec and their is snow on the ground. By then the carrots that are teft are BIG but just as tender and sweet as anything. They both freeze and can well!
