Figs are a Mediterranean plant, growing optimally between zones 8-10 however some varieties can be grown in zone 7 outdoors. Before planting, soak seeds 1-2 days. Plant seeds into a fine potting medium. Figs enjoy a humid environment, try placing a plastic lid or clear plastic bag over the seed tray to create a humid environment for seeds to germinate. Don’t over water the seed, if there is condensation on the inside of the lid, the seeds are moist enough. Be patient, fig seeds can take up to 8 weeks to germinate. Pot the seedlings up when they reach a few inches high. Plants can be grown in pots or planted in ground in zones 8 to 10. In colder climates, grow figs in pots outside in the summer, let go dormant in the winter by placing pots in the basement.
