A delicious, smooth-fruited version of this great crop, sometimes called "vining okra" or luffa gourd. This variety produces huge fruit that are best picked under 10" long; great fried, in soups or baked. Very easy to grow and tastes somewhat like a cross between squash and okra. It produces best in late summer when other crops are starting to slow down in production. Beautiful vines and flowers.

What are the pros? good taste

What are the cons? hard to germinate

Review:

I grew this to eat like okra, then I discovered you can pickle it like cucumbers. Makes the best garlic dill pickles 6 Quart Jars or pint jars. 6 Tbl salt 3 cups vinegar 3 cups water Heat to dissolve salt 1-2 garlic cloves in jar, 1 teaspoon pre pint Dill. pack with sweet honey fruit and hot bath 5 minutes. Let set for 6 weeks.

What are the pros? Flavor

What are the cons? Late

Review:

Took about 3.5 months to my first harvest. The flavor is fresh, a bit sweet, but also a bit bitter if you don't remove the skin thoroughly. I'll def give it a try again next year if there's still space in my garden. But I hope there'll be more choices of luffa gourds available to try. There are certainly a lot of better varieties out there. Much earlier, more prolific.
