What are the pros? Easy, colorful, prolific

What are the cons? None

Review:

I sprinkled the seeds directly in the garden and, with little work, grew pretty strawflowers. The flowers were red, pink, yellow, and white. They grew to 4 ft tall. Make sure you cut the flowers earlier than you think you need to if you are drying them because they will continue to open when they are drying.

What are the pros? Dried flowers, lovely colors

What are the cons? None

Review:

These strawflowers are such fun! They are easy to grow, even in pots. They also retain their color when cut and dried. Amazingly, for a flower which has petals that feel like stiff paper, there is a sweet aroma to them as well. I brought in one of my potted plants, a bright and cheery yellow, to see if it will bloom under my grow light bulbs this winter. The most difficult thing for me was learning how to correctly time the cutting of the blooms. If you cut too early the flower may not fully open as it dries; if you cut it too late, the flower petals curve too far back and the blossom tends to look weird.

What are the pros? neon bright colors

What are the cons? seemed hard to germinate

Review:

This is my first year growing straw flowers. They were a bit hard to get to germinate in flats. I planted a second set directly in the garden last week. They pink is the first to open. They are beautiful closed and opened. But it's an entirely different look. Closed, they are almost antique and classic, kind of expensive looking. Open the flowers are NEON bright and having too much fun. I only have the pink and yellow right now, I am anxious to see the other colors in the mix.
