Tansy

(Tanacetum vulgare) Perennial, to 4 feet. Fern-like, aromatic leaves, with a fragrance reminiscent of camphor and rosemary. Mature plants produce heads of attractive yellow button-like flowers, interesting when grown at the back of an herb border. Dried tansy has historically been used to repel insects like moths and ants; the plant also yields a traditional green dye. Not recommended for culinary use.

What are the pros? As discribed, winterhardy

What are the cons? non/just keep contained

Review:

It absolutely illiminated my bug problems on all my crops,(cucumbers,winter/summer squash,tomatoes,peppers,ect.,ect.,A BIG PLUS it attradts alot of ladybugs during thier breeding season that increase the ladtbug population and in turn the lady bugs did my work of illiminating the aphids and such from my garden almost completely and entirely I would strongly recommend this to any organic gardener as one of the best pest controlls and as far as them saying it is invasive I would say it sustains itself well and it is OUR PERSONAL FAULT IF WE DO NO PERIODIACALLY CONTAIN IT FROM SPREADING TO MUCH WHICH IS NOT A HARD ONCE INAWHILE SMALL TASK TO DO IN TURN FOR ITS GREAT BENIFITS

What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? None

Review:

Tansy is easy to grow here but must have slight shade from intense west sun. Works very well as insect repellent (flies, mosquitoes, ants, moths). Hang fresh bunches around doors in summer. Use dried leaves for use in storing winter clothes.
