What are the pros? Amazing flavor, grows quickly
What are the cons? I didn't grow enough of it ;-)
Cleveland, OH, 2 blocks from Lake Erie: I grew this last year in square foot gardening beds and was really confused when people told me that celery was hard to grow because this stuff was so easy! Great germination, plus all the thinnings (cut, not pulled) re-rooted *beautifully*. Just stick them in a lil glass vase and you can practically watch those roots re-grow.
Harvesting: Don't take the whole plant, just cut what you need and you'll get tasty celery all summer. Don't cover the plant with dirt either (aka "blanching") - this celery is *very* tender, though not the texture-less, pale bland crap you find at the supermarket. Once you try growing Tendercrisp celery, you'll never again want to eat the store-bought kind.
My only problem with this celery is that we didn't plant enough of it lol! We practically stripped the poor plants last summer when we pressured canned veggie soup (Ball book recipe). My garden plan will always include this celery.
