Looks somewhat like storage melons. Try picking when leave wilts for storage, or when it dries for normal use.

This melon got me totally ticked off. It is green and hard and stays green and hard. Most of them I did not know were ripe till they popped open as over ripe. Then I actually picked a couple and they were very good. BUT I picked some at the end of the season just befor the killing frost. I kept them in the garage and we ate one at Thanksgiving with pomgranate seeds sprinkled over. Fresh melon at thankgiving in Idaho! Not as good as prime summer melon but plenty good enough. It gets planted again
