(Arachis hypogaea) 110 days—A treasured heirloom that has been grown since before 1930, each pod contains from 2-5 red-skinned, mild, sweet kernels. A Valencia type, earlier than the Virginia strains. Superior for roasting or boiling, which is a preferred method of preparing them in the Deep South. Each packet contains at least 1 ounce of unshelled peanuts.

What are the pros? Easy to grow, delicious

What are the cons? None

Review:

We didn't have experience with peanuts before but are so happy we tried these. We planted them in a newly turned bed that had been lawn just a few weeks before. They grew beautifully and weren't bothered by the invading Bermuda grass. No pests. Didn't require anything from us at all, honestly. We harvested them and boiled some, and then we roasted some and turned them into the best peanut butter we've ever had.

What are the pros? little effort=beautiful plant

What are the cons? none

Review:

I love these plants. They are beautiful and produce lots of great peanuts. Get them in on time to make sure you get a good harvest. I found that if I put them in the garden too soon, or leave them out on the porch, something will come and nibble off the tops or dig up the seed. This year I will start earlier and keep them under lights for a bit longer in newspaper pots. These would be great as a border/groundcover in an annual bed.
