What are the pros? Very productive
What are the cons? Not very sweet when mature
Zone 6b. Planted a single vine in (very) fertile soil and got staggering numbers of watermelons from an enormous plant.
We mainly used it unripe to make certain kinds of Cambodian soups. We let some of them get ripe (let is not the right word, we were not able to keep up with the vine). When fully ripe it had good flavor, but not very sweet and extremely seedy. The seeds can be toasted; I'm not really a fan of those (eating them is more trouble than it's worth), but some people liked them.
Some problems with squash beetles after the first year. Other problems with a groundhog.
