Thai Burapa Pepper

Fiery little red, pointed peppers are popular in Thailand for flavoring many dishes. Loads of fruit are produced late on tall, bushy plants. The flesh is thin, making these great for drying for use in winter; an attractive variety that is perfect for Asian cooking.

What are the pros? easy, prolific, tasty, hot

What are the cons? It does take up more space

Review:

I grew this & several other pepper varieties this year, and this was a favorite. It produced an abundance of peppers which were hot and had an excellent flavor. The heat was fairly short lived, so it didn't overpower the flavor of the pepper or the cooked dish itself. I grew this in a 5-gallon bucket that basically produced a small tree with a pretty enormous canopy. I would pick a handful of these peppers every 2-3 days. When the hard freeze came last week, I was unable to move this plant inside because of its size. It still had loads of green peppers on it, so I know that it would have produced throughout the winter had I been able to protect it. I have a large quantity of dried peppers put up for us, I have given baggies of them to friends during the year, and I have a couple of full pint jars to give as gifts. These are great in Asian & other dishes.

What are the pros? Good flavor, productive

What are the cons? Late ripening, small plants

Review:

These did not grow to be "tall, bushy plants" in my garden. We had a particularly long growing season this year, but I was disappointed that not all peppers ripened before frost. I put the plants out around the first of May, and didn't get red chiles until about the end of September and into October. The plants stayed under 1' tall and did produce a lot for their size, but don't seem to compete well with the other chile plants in the same bed. They had a good flavor for making sambal olek, which is my reason for growing them, but I am going back to Thai Red Chilli next year.

Very prolific/excellent germination rate. Tons of 1-2inch peppers that have a very intense heat if not short lived. I like that about them. We enjoy them raw and cooked. Beautiful plant, a keeper.

Review:

These little peppers are flavorful and hot. I use them to spice up grilled Italian pork chops, BBQ ribs, and Thai basil chicken. The seeds had an almost 100% germination rate. The plants are healthy and loaded with inch and a half long peppers. This is a must have hot pepper for any garden.
