What are the pros? beautiful seed pods
What are the cons? waiting to see if it is hardy
This was easy to grow from seed, I potted up one and transplanted one to the west side of my porch. Both grew to about 4 feet then flopped over in a lovely draping shape when covered with burgundy seed pods. The plants I neglected in the original tiny pots were given to a friend and recovered to grow into beautiful plants. The flowers are pretty but barely noticeable once the stems are covered with burgundy seed pods. I dried the calyces and used them for tea. I will tuck them in wherever I can this year so I will have enough tea to last all winter. Hope it is hardy here in 6b next to a rock wall, fingers crossed! It is easy enough to grow as an annual.
