Tom Thumb Garden Pea

50-55 days--Tom Thumb is absolutely the best pea variety for container planting! Reaching only 8 to 9 inches in height, it's grown mainly as a shelling type, but the pods are also sweet, tender and delicious when harvested very young. This variety excels when tucked into small spaces around the garden, and for cold frame production very early or very late in the season. This unusual heirloom originated in England, was first introduced in the US by Landreth Seeds, Philadelphia, in 1854. Even more frost tolerant than most other pea varieties, and, naturally, it requires no staking!

Review:

I am a (very) novice veggie gardener, and these peas were an excellent choice. I planted 20 seeds, and quickly got 18 plants. They are perfect for those of us gardening in a small space, and I just used some in a chicken pot pie for dinner. I started them in pots right after last frost, and moved them to a small raised bed once they were a couple inches high. Love these little guys. :)

What are the pros? it is excellent in flower pots

What are the cons? great in every way

Review:

I grew them last season and was very impressed. in spite of the height, less than 10", they were very productive. they were adorable in flower pots, can start early in pots, pretty white flowers, good shelling peas, continuous harvest. when I was done with them, they still produced some more which were dried as soup peas in winter months. highly recommended.
