(C. pepo) 80 days. Very early bush-habit winter squash variety. Green, acorntype fruits are rather small. But their earliness commends them in shortseason climates or wherever a quick harvest is of especial concern. Developed by the University of Connecticut.

What are the pros? Great earthy rich taste

What are the cons? low germination rate, for me

Review:

We live next to Lake Superior, pretty far north, in the UP of Michigan. We haven't got very rich soil (yet) and summers are short and cool. We were happy to have squash that matured at all, and when we cooked them we loved the taste! The small size is perfect for just the two of us. Our neighbor gave us a bunch of his much-larger acorn squash, and compared to our UConn squash, our neighbor's tasted like styrofoam. Recently, I have planted about 25 seeds from a packet that I bought in the fall and saved (they were out of stock for a while), and only 3 germinated.
