A fascinating heirloom from the Mideast country of Uzbekistan. Big, fat 6-8 inch cucumbers turn brown when ripe. Very crisp even at large sizes. This variety is a good keeper and will store well into the fall. Unique and fun to grow.

What are the pros? Large and heat tolerant
What are the cons? a bit slow to mature
Love them. Really cool looking. Taking the 100 heat well. Took a while to bear fruit ( 2 weeks after suyo long) but have already collected 4 or 5 huge ones and the vines are full of babies. The slow onset is kind of nice so I wasnt overwhelmed at the start of the season. Will order again.

I planted these in mostly clay soil, where other cukes have performed well in the past. Slow growth, most seedlings died after a few flowers. Only one of 5 or 6 actually lasted to production, but never got very big. Only 3-4 cucumbers total from the plant, although fun and with tough outer skin, squirrels did not try to scratch/eat. Flavor mild, similar to regular green cucumbers. With very high heat and cucumber beetle problems this past summer, my Burpee hybrids and pepinos performed much better than the Uzbekski. However, I would try again to see how they fare in better conditions.

I planted these along with the Poona Kheera Cucumber. The Uzbekski outperformed the Poona approx 5 to 1. It was a hot dry summer with many days where the temps were greater than 100 degrees. The cukes were very prolific, tasty and never bitter. Highly recommend - saving the seed for next year.

Uzbekski was an excellent flavored cucumber. It was burpless with no bitterness even at very mature sizes. Very prolific and produces quickly. I plan to grow this one again.

2009 was the first year we tried this cucumber. I picked it for short season and as a novelty. It produces quickly. We had terrible weather for growing anything this past year and it was the only cucumber that lived long enough to produce. And, they are delicious! The seed cavity is small and produces few seeds. I have never had a burpless cucumber that lived up to it's promise but uzbeksi did. There was no promises made about hardiness or mildness, but it will be on my must have list from now on. I don't think I could find a better cucumber for eating raw or for the table.
