Review:

I planted this rhubarb in egg cartons and placed on a heating pad. The results were fantastic! I got 100% germination. Next year I will have 24 plants for under $3.00 . Thanks so much!

What are the pros? 100% sprout, vigorous growth

What are the cons? None

Review:

I am so impressed by how quickly and how vigorously this variety has established itself in our garden. Started the seeds in flats in early February 2015. Transplanted them into larger containers in early April and set out into their permanent home later that month. These leaves are HUGE and the stalks are SUPER THICK. I was sooooo tempted to harvest some this season - but I won't. We are SO looking forward to a wonderful rhubarb harvest next year.

What are the pros? high germination, lovely stalk

What are the cons? nothing

Review:

I bought these seeds two years ago, and live on a balcony so they went in pots. Every seed germinated much to my shock (I was told they're hard to grow from seed) but the died due to a sudden trip I had to take. I grew them again this year (from the same package)sure that only a few would take--but they all did! Oops! I put them in pots and they've REALLY taken off given that the don't always get a lot of sun. But boy are they doing great! So lesson here is: You can grow rhubarb from seed, in pots, in southern california! Fear not balcony gardeners, it's possible to enjoy Rhubarb!

What are the pros? easy to grow

What are the cons? don't like high water table

Review:

I started growing rhubarb from seed when the rhubarb root/crowns I brought didn't last more than a year or 2 since the water table is too high. It is easy to start outside in a pot after it gets warm and break up and replant in the soil--just have to water and not let it dry up. It comes back in the spring and you don't have to worry about losing older plants. Very nice in jams.
